HSN, the St. Petersburg TV shopping channel, is reconsidering product placement advertising. Previously, the network was known for prohibiting branded entertainment.
As written in TampaBay.com: ?The move comes as TV networks step up selling product placement plugs within show content to overcome advertiser fears their ads are zapped by digital video recorders like TiVo.?
The network made a deal with Kraft Foods, which allowed a show to display the package and the list of attributes of Barilla pasta in a cookware sales demonstration. The network also placed the Kraft product in its Website and featured it in the network?s Twitter messages.
In October, HSN will air a three-minute segment, where chefs will cook a recipe from the Kraft Food & Family magazine. The show will feature various Kraft product placements.
As of press time, the financial terms of the deal were left undisclosed.
