ABB Robotics, a global provider of industrial robots and factory automation products, will have a product placement in Warner Brothers? upcoming film ?Terminator Salvation.? 18 ABB Robots will share the silver screen with renowned actor Christian Bale in the highly-anticipated fourth installment of the Terminator film franchise.
The ABB Robots will be shown in the film as robot manufacturers. Through special effects, the robots are arranged in an almost endless manufacturing line on the terminator factory floor, where they manufacture a growing army of terminators.
Jaffe Entertainment, a product placement company, had initially contacted ABB and several robotic manufacturers to investigate possible options to build the terminator assembly line.
Set director Victor Zolfo and production designer Martin Laing were intrigued by ABB?s product offerings and they began working with ABB Robotics Vice President of Marketing Ted Wodoslawsky.
?We looked at a variety of different robot manufacturers, but were most struck by the presence of ABB?s robots, especially the larger units,? said Zolfo. ?They had the right lines and they provided the feel that they could actually be making Terminators.?
Just like human actors, the robots had make-up, covered with black soot to appear as if they had been in rigorous use.
?The robots were really an evolutionary character,? described Zolfo. ?Like an interim step between the humans and the Terminators.?
