Product Placements on Top Chef

Reality TV series “Top Chef” earned sixth, seventh, and eighth place in Nielsen’s latest list of most effective product placements.

According to internal data, the show was also ranked third in TV product placement activity for the first half of 2008 with 9,316 occurrences. Top Chef relies heavily on product placement and brand integration for the challenges and tasks in the show.

Here are some of the placements in brief:

•    General Electric (GE) equipped the Top Chef kitchen and provided appliance prizes in the previous seasons.
•    Whole Foods make aisle appearances whenever contestants are sent to the grocery.
•    Swanson broth sponsored one whole challenge, where the chefs had to use the product as an ingredient. Dr. Pepper and Quaker Oats had similar challenges in episode seven and episode ten, respectively.
•    Toyota Venza made an appearance in last week’s episode as the chef’s official auto.
