Kraft and General Mills Try Word Of Mouth Online

Kraft and General Mills have decided to take their marketing campaigns to cyberspace. The two companies are placing ?word-of-mouth? advertisements online?with so many internet users out there, who?s to tell them they?re wrong?

General Mills ?Psst??

?Psst?? is General Mills? new online network, which gives consumers the latest product news and updates. The site was launched through e-newsletters last month, and currently has 100,000 subscribers.

The website uses a survey to determine a consumer?s taste and preference. Registered users have access to numerous features: blog posts about products, recipe sharing, and product sample kits via e-mail.

Kraft ?firsttaste.com?

Last week, Kraft launched kraftfirsttaste.com, a site that gives consumers access to the newest coupons and sampling offers. Apart from that, the site also has numerous features, including product reviews, discussion boards, and photo-sharing applications.

Consumer trends

How will these sites translate to sales? Well, today?s consumer is adamant about product reviews and opinions. They want to make sure they get their money?s worth?who doesn?t? While these sites don?t charge for subscriptions, they encourage an environment that is helpful to the consumer. And this will translate to better sales.
